Spiritual Retreats… are they really that powerful? (my honest take)

I’m going to be real with you… There was a time when the idea of a “spiritual retreat” sounded beautiful…but also a little romanticized. Like something you see online and think,“that must be nice… but is it actually that deep?” And then you experience spaces like that… even in small ways… and you realize something important: It’s not about the aesthetic. It’s about what happens when you finally step away from your normal life.

Because that’s the real shift

We’re constantly in movement. Thinking, doing, solving, reacting. Even when we say we’re resting… we’re still mentally somewhere else. So when you remove yourself from that environment — even for a few days —something in you starts to settle. Not instantly. Sometimes it’s actually uncomfortable at first. But then… your mind slows down. Your body softens. And you start hearing things you weren’t hearing before.

Not external voices…yourself.

What retreats actually give you (beyond the surface)

People talk about retreats like they’re this magical reset… and in a way, they can be.

But not because something “happens” to you. It’s because you finally have space.

Space to:

– see your patterns more clearly

– feel emotions you’ve been pushing away

– reconnect with what actually matters to you

– and be honest… without distraction

And that alone can change a lot.

It’s not always comfortable (and that’s okay)

I think this part is important to say… Not every moment in a retreat feels peaceful or “high vibe”. Sometimes things come up. Old emotions. Confusion. Resistance.

And that doesn’t mean something is wrong. That’s usually where the real work begins.

If you ever consider doing one… this is what I’d say

Don’t choose a retreat just because it looks pretty online. Choose based on what you actually need. Ask yourself: Do I need rest? Do I need clarity? Do I need to disconnect… or to face something? Also pay attention to the energy of the space and the person guiding it. That matters more than the location.

And also… you don’t need a retreat to begin

This is something I always remind people. Yes, retreats can be powerful. Yes, stepping away helps. But your connection with yourself doesn’t only happen in a mountain,or by the ocean, or in a curated space. You can start where you are. By sitting with yourself for a few minutes. By being honest about what you feel.By creating small moments of stillness in your day. That’s already part of the work.

For me… this is something that’s growing

I’m not currently hosting retreats. But I understand their value in a very real way…especially when they’re done intentionally and not just for the experience. And when I do create something like that in the future,it won’t be about escaping life… it will be about coming back to yourself.

So if you feel that pull… listen to it

Not because you need to “fix” anything. But because something in you is asking for space. And that’s always worth honoring.

May your path be illuminated with wisdom, your heart open to love, and your spirit forever renewed.
